Mark Lambert is the Senior Deputy Director for Heritage at the Texas General Land Office (GLO), where he helps oversee the Alamo and the GLO Archives and Records. He previously served as the GLO Deputy Director for Archives and Records from 2008 to 2023, during which time he significantly expanded the agency’s collections and outreach. A professional archivist and public historian for more than twenty-five years, he holds a B.A. and M.A. in American history from Sam Houston State University (1991, 1992) and an M.L.I.S. in archival and records enterprise from the University of Texas at Austin (1998).

Lambert is a coauthor of Texas Takes Shape: A History in Maps from the General Land Office (University of Texas Press, 2024) and has published several works on Texas history and archives, including an article on the San Jacinto Centennial Association for the Handbook of Texas. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served on active duty in the infantry from 1983 to 1987.
