A native Texan and lifelong archeologist, Sarah Chesney serves as the Site Archeologist for San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site with the Texas Historical Commission. She earned her B.A. in Anthropology and Classical Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, followed by an M.A. and Ph.D. from the College of William and Mary. Since joining the THC in 2018, she has developed a robust public archeology program focused on the 19th-century town of San Felipe and Colonial Texas history. Chesney’s work integrates archeological and archival evidence to enrich interpretation and visitor experience. An active member of state and national archeological organizations, she served as president of the Texas Archeological Society from 2020 to 2021.
