Tamra L. Walter is an Associate Professor of Archeology at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. She earned her B.A. and Ph.D. in Archeology from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.A. from the University of Montana at Missoula. Her research focuses on the Spanish Colonial period in Texas, particularly missions and presidios, and she has directed excavations at Missions Espíritu Santo, San Lorenzo, and San José, as well as at Presidio San Sabá. Walter’s presentation revisits the history and archeology of Mission San Lorenzo de la Santa Cruz, examining how new investigations have reshaped understanding of one of Spanish Texas’s final mission efforts.
